Astronomers have discovered two planets in a nearby solar system they say could be capable of supporting life.

The planets orbit Teegarden’s star, about 12 light years, or 70 trillion miles, away from Earth.  They’re similar to our planet in terms of size, orbit, and rotation speed.

Researchers say that because Teegarden’s Star appears to be stable, the planets could potentially have rocky terrain and “flowing, puddling water”.

However, this is all based on estimates and not first Researcher Ignasi Ribas says the next step is to determine if the planets are “actually habitable and, perhaps, even inhabited”.
