Covid-19 Testing Going Slowly; Hospitalizations At Lowest Level Since June
California has tested 10,227,966 of its 40 million people for the Covid-19 virus, since March 2020. That’s 25.56% of the population.
29,772,034 people still need to be tested in California, that’s 74.43% of the state’s population. It’ll take 341 days to test everyone in California at the current rate of testing.
6.309% of the people tested for Covid-19 in California have tested positive. That’s 644,751 people.
93.69% of the people tested for Covid-19 in California have tested negative. That’s 9,583,215 people.
California has 11,686 deaths from Covid-19, which is 1.81% of those who have tested positive.
California hospitals report 7/10th’s of 1% of the people who have tested positive, are hospitalized, which is 4,890 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the hospitals. 1,557 of those patients are in ICU. The State also reports having another 1,322 “Suspected Covid-19” patients.

Riverside County has tested 474,861 people for Covid-19 since March 2020, out of a population of 2.5 million. That’s 18.99% of the County’s population.
2,025,139 people still need to be tested in the county, that’s 81% of the county’s population. The County tested 3,850 people on Wednesday, August 19th, 2020. At that rate of testing, it will take the county 526 days to test every resident.
10.30% of the people tested for Covid-19 have tested positive. That’s 48,956 people.
89.69% of the people tested for Covid-19 have tested negative. That’s 425,905 people.
Of the 48,956 people who have tested positive in Riverside County,
53.88% of them, 26,382, have fully recovered.
43.68% of them, 21,385 are at home recovering and are not getting any medical assistance. Together, that’s 97.56% of all the positive cases.

12,786 positive cases have been recorded in the Coachella Valley since March 8th, 2020, when the testing and counting began. The Coachella Valley has accounted for 26.11% of the positive cases in Riverside County.

547 deaths are men, 374 are women, and 0 are transgender, non-binary or intersex according to county officials
Riverside County has 3,098 cases in nursing homes, with 1,917 cases among patients, and 1,181 cases among staff. The overwhelming majority of nursing home cases, 889 cases, are in the City of Riverside.
In Coachella Valley nursing facilities, there have been 190 cases in Palm Desert, 132 in Palm Springs, 75 in Rancho Mirage, 55 in Indio, 53 in La Quinta,
Riverside County is no longer providing capacity statistics for the hospitals in the county.
The federal temporary hospitals built at the County Fairgrounds in Indio and the old Sears Store in Riverside months ago, are still equipped and ready to be used. They are not currently being used because they are not needed at this time. They are not staffed right now because there are no patients there.
If they are needed, they can quickly be staffed and put into operation.
All testing is free to the patient being tested. Be patient, you might have to wait a while to get an appointment.
Drive-thru testing is available by appointment only at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio from 9 a-m to 3 p-m Tuesday through Saturday, by appt only. You can also get tested at the Cathedral City Library on Date Palm Drive. Rite Aid is expanding its COVID-19 testing capacity across California too.
Testing will be available by appointment for people 18 years of age or older, regardless of whether the person is experiencing symptoms, according to Rite Aid. Results are expected in three to five days, a company spokesperson said.
