Covid-19 Testing Reaches Just 12% Of Riverside County Population…More Than 4 Months Into Pandemic

As of Monday morning July 20th, 2020.

 

California state statistics are through Saturday, July 18th, 2020

 

California has tested 6,286,852 of its 40 million people for the Covid-19 virus.

 

That’s 15.71% of the population.

 

California has 384,692 positive cases for Covid-19, which is 6.11% of the people who have been tested so far.

 

California has 7,685 deaths from Covid-19, which is 1.99% of those who have tested positive.

 

Riverside County numbers DO NOT include the weekend of July 18th and 19th 2020.

 

In Riverside County, since March 15th, 2020, 307,617 people have been tested for Covid-19 as of Monday morning July 20th, 2020, and 9.32% of them, 28,695, have tested positive.  278,922 people have tested negative, which is 90.67% of the people tested.

 

Of the 28,695 people who have tested positive in Riverside County, 36.29% of them, 10,416, have fully recovered.

59.79% of them, 17,157, is at home recovering and are not getting any medical assistance. Together, that’s 96.08% of all the positive cases.

1.86% of the people who have tested positive so far in Riverside County, 535 people, remain hospitalized, (that includes 1 person from Imperial County and 3 from Riverside County jails), and 130 of them are in Intensive Care.

 

2.04% of the people who have tested positive so far in Riverside County, 587 people, have died from Covid-19.

 

12.30% of Riverside County’s population has been tested for Covid-19.  That’s 307,617 people out of a population of 2.5 million people.

There are still 2.19 million people that need to be tested in Riverside County.

 

8,093 cases are in the Coachella Valley.

1,016 cases are in unincorporated areas of the desert;

(Mecca 243 cases and 6 deaths, Thermal 107 cases, Oasis 179 cases and 1 death,  North Shore 82 cases and 1 death, Bermuda Dunes 75 cases and 1 death, Thousand Palms 105 cases, Vista Santa Rosa 56 cases and 1 death, Garnet 96 cases, Desert Palms 32 cases and 2 deaths, Desert Edge 21 cases and 2 deaths, and Sky Valley 20 cases)

153 cases in Rancho Mirage, 12 dead

1,081 cases in Cathedral City, 13 dead

629 cases in Palm Desert, 35 dead

513 cases in Desert Hot Springs, 6 dead

1,577 cases in Coachella,  15 dead

27 in Indian Wells, 1 death

10 cases in Idyllwild/Pine Cove, no deaths

In Riverside County:

 

10,416 people have recovered from the Covid-19 virus.

 

17,157 people are quarantined at home in various stages of recovery.

 

There have been 587 deaths linked to Covid-19 in Riverside County as of Monday morning July 20th, 2020.  247 are women, 340 are men.

 

175 of those deaths are in the Coachella Valley.   161 deaths in cities, 14deaths in unincorporated areas…6 in Mecca,  1 in Vista Santa Rosa, 1 in Bermuda Dunes, 2 in Desert Palms, 2 in Desert Edge, 1 in Oasis, and 1 in North Shore.

 

Riverside County has 2,248 cases in nursing homes, with 1,378 cases among patients, and 870 cases among staff. The overwhelming majority of nursing home cases, 705 cases, are in the City of Riverside.

In Coachella Valley nursing facilities, there have been 164 cases in Palm Desert, 86 in Palm Springs, 50 in Indio, 50 in La Quinta, 46 in Rancho Mirage.

Drive-thru testing is available by appointment only at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio from 9 a-m to 3 p-m Tuesday through Saturday, by appt only. You can also get tested at the Cathedral City Library on Date Palm Drive. Rite Aid is expanding its COVID-19 testing capacity across California too.

 

Testing will be available by appointment for people 18 years of age or older, regardless of whether the person is experiencing symptoms, according to Rite Aid. Results are expected in three to five days, a company spokesperson said.

 

The Riverside County locations providing testing starting Thursday, July 16th, 2020 are:

The sites will utilize self-swab nasal tests overseen by Rite Aid pharmacists and will operate weekdays from 10 a.m to 8 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Patients must provide government-issued ID, be at least 18 and pre-register online at www.riteaid.com to schedule an appointment.

 

Hospitals in the Coachella Valley are managing to keep up with the surge in COVID-19 cases. As of Monday morning, July 20th, 2020, Riverside County Public Health officials report 78% capacity in ICU facilities at hospitals in the desert, 51% capacity of all the hospital beds in the desert, and Covid-19 patients are taking up 15.7% of all hospital beds in the desert.

 

Across the entire county, 17 hospitals, there is 84.5% capacity at ICU facilities, 69.7% capacity of all hospital beds, and Covid-19 patients are taking up 14.2% of all hospital beds in the county.

 

The federal temporary hospitals built at the County Fairgrounds in Indio and the old Sears Store in Riverside months ago, are still equipped and ready to be used.   They are not currently being used because they are not needed at this time.   They are not staffed right now because there are no patients there.

 

If they are needed, they can quickly be staffed and put into operation.
