On Thursday, Metallica’s James Hetfield made his first public appearance since entering rehab last year.

Hetfield attended a reception at the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A., where 10 of the singer’s classic cars are on display in a new exhibit.

Last September, Metallica were forced to cancel an Australian tour when Hetfield checked into rehab.  The band is set to tour South America in April and headline three U.S. festivals in May.
