In the wake of several recent celebrity suicides, Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has opened up about his brush with taking his own life in an effort to encourage people to “hang in there”.

Posting on his social media, Navarro, who also played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 1993 to 1998, said he had gone so far as to stockpile medication and write a suicide note.

Navarro said he “was ready to go” but he did “whatever it took” to stop himself. He finishes his message asking those contemplating suicide to “please reach out if you find yourself in the darkness” and that “there is no darkness without light.”

What efforts can you make to reach out to a friend in need? And please keep the Suicide Prevention number handy to make the call if your friend can’t.
