Kurt Cobain’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ Guitar Sells For Big Bucks At Auction

The guitar played by Kurt Cobain for Nirvana’s megahit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video has sold for $4.5 million at auction.

The 1969 Fender Mustang Competition Lake Placid blue finish electric guitar was snatched up by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Part of the proceeds will go toward mental health awareness. Cobain died by suicide in 1994.

In his final interview with Guitar World, Cobain said the left-handed Fender Mustang guitar was his favorite.
