A judge is clearing the way for Los Angeles officials to shut down gun stores.

In a statement, a federal judge has ruled that the closure of nonessential businesses, including firearms and ammunition retailers, fits the state’s objectives of slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer called the decision a victory, saying people need to follow the Stay at Home order.

Gun rights supporters have argued that closing gun stores is a violation of people’s right to bear arms, and to purchase guns to protect themselves.
