Parts of the celebrated Motley Crue book “The Dirt” may have been “greatly embellished,” according to bassist Nikki Sixx.

The 2001 book, written by all four members of the group and author Neil Strauss, recounts a number of the band’s immersions into the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

One of the more seedier tales involves a drunk fan who Sixx claims he and drummer Tommy Lee “pretty much” raped at a party.

Now Sixx is backpedaling on the story, telling Rolling Stone, “I don’t actually recall that story in the book beyond reading it.

The book was written in 2000 during a really low point in my life. I had lost my sobriety and was using drugs and alcohol to deal with a disintegrating relationship which I still to this day regret how I handled.

I honestly don’t recall a lot of the interviews with Neil.” The incident will not be included in the film version of “The Dirt,” which premieres March 22 on Netflix.
