Laws in the City of Palm Springs don’t coincide with Riverside County when it comes to Covid-19.

On Friday, May 8th, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors lifted requirements to wear a facemask in public or to stay at least 6 feet away from any other human being.

Back on April 30th, as those requirements were ending, County Public Health Officer Cameron Kaiser extended them until June 19th, which caused an uproar by people who have seen their businesses crushed and employees who have seen their jobs vanish due to the government lockdown.

So, the county supervisors have lifted the facemask and social distancing requirements, as of May 8th. They recommend both, but don’t require them.

But the City of Palm Springs continues with its own laws.

So when you travel around, check with each individual city because many cities have laws that are contrary to county laws.

Palm Springs is still aligned with the State of California, which continues to order people to stay home, only leave for essential work, or to get groceries or medicine.

You can take your dog for a walk, but cover your face when you are in public, and steer clear of other people.

The government has decided what is essential, and that would be retail stores with curbside pickup, factories, grocery stores, even florists.

But gyms, barbershops and beauty salons are not essential, even if you spent your life savings to open the salon or the gym and hire employees.

If you live with an HOA or in an apartment, the swimming pools can open, but there are limits to how many people can be in the pool, and you must avoid all other people. Only 1 person at a time in the hot tub.

Anyone 65 or older or who is already sick with another problem, self-quarantine at home.

You can go to the park if you can walk to the park in triple-digit heat.

But there is no group gathering at the park, you can’t play sports with a group of your friends. Stay away from other people.

And you can go to the cemetery, at Desert Memorial Park, Monday through Friday from 7 a-m to 5 p-m.

But you have to wear a facemask at all times, and no more than 5 people at a time at a gravesite, and they have to stay at least 6 feet away from other people unless they live in the same household.
