Runner Hit By Deer, Still Finishes Race

If you spend months training for a marathon, you’re going to finish that race and receive your medal and foil blanket no matter what is throw in your way. At least that’s what Christina Sanchez believes, who was tackled by a deer as she approached mile-marker 10 in the Jersey Shore Half Marathon on Sunday.

Sanchez was given medical attention at the scene, then picked herself back up and kept running, only losing 10 minutes off her goal time. Speaking to the Asbury Park Press after the race, Sanchez says she wanted to be an inspiration to her children, telling the newspaper, “I always tell my kids if you’re knocked down just pick yourself back up and keep going.”
