The man who played Spinal Tap drummer Mick Shrimpton in the heavy metal ‘mockumentary’ This Is Spinal Tap has died at the age of 70.

Ric Parnell was a British musician who played with a variety of prog-rock bands in the 1970’s.  But he was most famous for playing Shrimpton – one of many Spinal Tap drummers who died under mysterious circumstances – as well as his ‘twin brother’ Ric Shrimpton during the band’s 1992 reunion tour.

In his later years, Parnell hosted a weekly radio show in Missoula, Montana.
