Testing For Covid-19 Going Up, Hospitalizations Coming Down, In CA & Riverside County

California has tested 8,998,353 of its 40 million people for the Covid-19 virus, since March 2020.  That’s 22.49% of the population.

 

31,001,647 people still need to be tested in California, and at current testing levels, that will take 180 days to complete.

 

6.24% of the people tested for Covid-19 in California have tested positive. That’s 561,911 people.

 

93.75% of the people tested for Covid-19 in California have tested negative.  That’s 8,436,442 people.

 

California has 10,359 deaths from Covid-19, which is 1.84% of those who have tested positive.

 

California hospitals report under 1% of the people who have tested positive are hospitalized, which is 5,596 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the hospitals. 1,727 of those patients are in ICU.  The State also reports having another 1,174 “Suspected Covid-19” patients.

Riverside County stats as of Tuesday morning August 11th, 2020,  include the weekend of August 8th and 9th 2020

 

Riverside County has tested 403,340 people for Covid-19 since March 2020, out of a population of 2.5 million.  That’s 16.13% of the County’s population. 83.86% of the population has not been tested for Covid-19

 

2,096,660 people still need to be tested in the county. At current testing levels, it will take the County more than 300 days to test all its residents.

 

10.40% of the people tested for Covid-19 have tested positive.

That’s 41,983 people.

 

89.59% of the people tested for Covid-19 in Riverside County have tested negative.

That’s 361,357 people.

 

Of the 41,983 people who have tested positive in Riverside County,

52.15% of them, 21,898, have fully recovered.

45.03% of them, 18,906, are at home recovering and are not getting any medical assistance. Together, that’s 97.18% of all the positive cases.

 

Under 1% of the people who have tested positive so far in Riverside County, 359 people, remain hospitalized, and 112 of them are in Intensive Care.

 

1.95% of the people who have tested positive so far in Riverside County, 820 people, have died from Covid-19. 260 of those deaths have been in the Coachella Valley, which is 31.70% of the County’s total. 235deaths in cities, 25 deaths in unincorporated areas…8 in Mecca,  1 in Vista Santa Rosa, 3 in Bermuda Dunes, 4 in Garnet, 2 in Desert Palms, 4 in Desert Edge, 2 in Oasis, and 1 in North Shore.

 

 

11,380 positive cases have been recorded in the Coachella Valley since March 8th, 2020, when the testing and counting began. The Coachella Valley has accounted for 27.10% of the positive cases in Riverside County.

 

1,476 cases are in unincorporated areas of the desert;

(Mecca 341 cases, Thermal 141 cases, Oasis 268,  North Shore 107 cases, Bermuda Dunes 102 cases, Thousand Palms 165 cases, Vista Santa Rosa 66 cases, Garnet 172 cases, Desert Palms 40 cases, Desert Edge 41 cases, and Sky Valley 33 cases)

 

9,904 cases are in cities in the desert:

 

830 cases in Palm Springs, 33 dead

204 cases in Rancho Mirage, 15 dead

831 cases in Palm Desert, 45 dead

1,528 cases in Cathedral City, 25 dead

2,100 cases in Coachella,  20 dead

2,876 cases in Indio, 63 dead

639 cases in La Quinta, 16 dead

858 cases in Desert Hot Springs, 16 dead

38 in Indian Wells, 2 deaths

19 cases in Idyllwild/Pine Cove, 1 death

39 cases in Cabazon, 1 dead

 

 

In Riverside County:

There are no deaths from Covid-19 for anyone from newborn to age 17.

4 deaths among people aged 18-24.

37 deaths among people aged 25-44

203 deaths among people aged 45-64

400 deaths among people aged 64-84

176 deaths among people aged 85 and up.

 

 

Riverside County has 2,817 cases in nursing homes, with 1,731 cases among patients, and 1,086 cases among staff. The overwhelming majority of nursing home cases, 842 cases, are in the City of Riverside.

In Coachella Valley nursing facilities, there have been 189 cases in Palm Desert, 128 in Palm Springs, 52 in Indio, 50 in La Quinta, 49 in Rancho Mirage.

 

Riverside County is no longer providing capacity statistics for the hospitals in the county.

 

The federal temporary hospitals built at the County Fairgrounds in Indio and the old Sears Store in Riverside months ago, are still equipped and ready to be used.   They are not currently being used because they are not needed at this time.   They are not staffed right now because there are no patients there.

 

If they are needed, they can quickly be staffed and put into operation.

 

All testing is free to the patient being tested. Be patient, you might have to wait a while to get an appointment.

Drive-thru testing is available by appointment only at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio from 9 a-m to 3 p-m Tuesday through Saturday, by appt only. You can also get tested at the Cathedral City Library on Date Palm Drive. Rite Aid is expanding its COVID-19 testing capacity across California too.

 

Testing will be available by appointment for people 18 years of age or older, regardless of whether the person is experiencing symptoms, according to Rite Aid. Results are expected in three to five days, a company spokesperson said.

The sites will utilize self-swab nasal tests overseen by Rite Aid pharmacists and will operate weekdays from 10 a.m to 8 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
