When it comes to Tool fans getting a straight answer from the band on when they’ll hear the long-awaited new album, that seems to be a bit of a challenge.

Drummer Danny Carey claimed a while back that the fifth record would be ready in April, but frontman Maynard James Keenan squashed that, saying mid-May or mid-July.

A recent interview with someone not even in the group has some insight. According to Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Tool is close to finished.

Speaking to New Zealand’s The Rock, the guitarist, who is close friends with fellow axeman Adam Jones reveals, “Last thing I knew, he was dealing with artwork, so that’s great.

If they’re finishing the artwork, it must be close.”
