It used to be the Boxing Club at 225 El Cielo Road in Palm Springs, across the street from Palm Springs International Airport.

But for the next year, it will be the new home of Well In The Desert, which will provide daytime meals, transportation, and emergency food and clothing to homeless people in the area.

It will team with Martha’s Village and Kitchen, which will provide counseling, job search, and housing acquisition services.

The people who go to the facility for daytime assistance won’t be allowed to loiter there after the place closes for the day.

But if those people are already homeless, they will have few options available to them after dark.

Well In The Desert was providing services at 441 Calle Encilia near Ramon Road the past 4 years.

But the City pulled the permit, amidst increased calls for police assistance and an increase of homeless people around the facility, which could be expected at a facility serving the homeless population.

Two trailers with portable restrooms, 2 with portable showers and two modular office trailers will be brought onto the Boxing Club property.

The City of Palm Springs will reassess all of this in June of 2022.
