CHP Targets People Texting & Driving

The California Highway Patrol is taking the next 12 months to focus on getting distracted drivers off the road.

Through enforcement and education, CHP Officers will use in-person and virtual presentations to convince people to pay attention to driving when they are behind the wheel.

Funding for this program is from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On average, there are more than 20,000 drivers in California involved in a crash every year where distractions are a factor.

Cell phones continue to be the main source of temptation for drivers who talk or text while driving, often with disastrous consequences.

Drivers should only use a phone when necessary and in a hands-free mode.
