Congress Debates If Nickelback Is Good

The divide between the two parties in Congress has widened a bit further. Never mind fighting over taxes, healthcare, and spending. Apparently, Republicans and Democrats can’t see eye-to-eye over rock bands either.

Discussing a bill on the House floor aimed at fixing voting, campaign finance, and ethics laws, Wisconsin Democrat Rep. Mark Pocan took a swipe at the world’s most maligned band, arguing that those against H.R. 1 equal, “probably about the percent of people who think Nickelback is their favorite band in this country.”‘

Rep. Rodney Davis from Illinois wasn’t about to let his colleague from the other side of the aisle get away with such a statement, asking, how could he “criticize one of the greatest bands of the ’90s?”

As the debate turned towards the merits of the Canadian rockers, Pocan pointed out that the issue shows, “One more reason why there’s a difference between Democrats and Republicans,” but did try softening the mood by adding, “I will just wrap by saying, I appreciate that very brave admission of your fandom for Nickelback.”
