More Americans are filing for first-time unemployment claims.
According to the U-S Labor Department, 965-thousand Americans filed for first-time benefits last week.
That’s up 181-thousand from the previous week’s revised level.
It was revised down about three-thousand claims to 784-thousand. Analysts forecast jobless claims would rise to 800-thousand, but the claims surpassed that number.
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending January 2nd 2021 were in Louisiana, Kansas, Texas, Georgia and Washington.
The largest decreases were in Illinois, California, Maryland and Florida.
